As a backyard birder with a squirrel domination problem, the constant chase was on between my furry little friends and saving my bird seed, well, for my birds. Squirrels have shown me once and for all why they always look so plump. I am truly convinced they have learned to rule the world. It wasn’t until a crisp, early summer morning I had reached my limit.
As usual the chase was on, and in expectation of the little thief scattering down the bird feeder, I was once again determined to fight for the birds. The squirrel lunged. On me. And in all my half-dressed glory, my neighbors applauded as I dramatically did a serpentine run towards my back porch.
After that, I decided to do my homework on squirrels. I researched for hours. I somehow tripped into squirrel proof bird feeders online. I felt no hesitation in purchasing a couple different kinds.
But, I Did It!
I found the best squirrel proof bird feeder. After comparing to numerous other designs and trying a few out I stayed with the Squirrel-Stopper Pole from Liberty Products. My backyard bird menagerie included four bird feeders, all of which I loved. I was able to keep them all with this amazing anti-squirrel product. I simply hung my feeders on the bird feeder pole. I cannot say enough good things about this squirrel proof product.
If you have squirrel problems and want to keep your current bird feeders then this all-in-one squirrel proof pole and baffle set is the best choice available. Here is a list of the excellent features the Liberty Squirrel-Stopper Pole:
- Inverted cone spring-loaded free-floating baffle tilts and rocks in all directions so squirrels can't climb past it
- Made from rust-proof, powder-coated, heavy-duty, 16-gauge steel
- Holds 8 Feeders or combination of feeders, flower baskets, bird baths etc.
- Each arm can hold up to 30 lbs of weight (2 arms, 60 lbs total)
- Comes with a screw-in steel auger to firmly hold feeder in ground Fast & easy assembly - No tools required
climb this the baffle doesn’t keep still enough them to climb. This is a beautiful thing. This pole should be placed away from anything a squirrel can launch from, preferably the center of a wide open area in your yard. You can balance it by adding a few flower pots too.
Not Going to Lie…
I was so wound up over the ‘squirrel incident’ I bought one of the strange looking cage design bird feeders. The concept was so interesting to me I wanted to see if it actually would work, or even attract birds.
This squirrel proof bird feeder is made from beautiful stainless steel, kind of looks like a jail for birds, but the concept is simple and it made sense to me. I hung it on my new baffle pole and watched. I waited.
Then a beautiful thing happened, one of my toughest resident squirrels worked diligently to try to weasel out some of that golden bird seed. There was no way his little fingers could even wiggle out a bite. After sheer exhaustion, he chose to pick up seed scrapings that had fallen to the ground.
Squirrels are interesting, and entertaining. Even after super squirrel tried to hitch a ride, I still have a soft spot for them. While I was knee-deep in finding a solution for the seed thieving, I discovered another solid way to discourage them was to provide them their own special feeding platform.
They are protective little food hoarders who if given their own feeder will delight in keeping all other squirrels and predators out of their territory, which is the whole yard. So I found a win-win situation. My birds get to keep their food, I now have a ‘watch’ squirrel on patrol for the mere cost of peanuts, and I get to keep my dignity in check with the neighbors.
I just hope I picked out the right feeder for my squirrel friend
