These new DCF-series 9 x 42 BR binoculars from Pentax feature a new open-bridge configuration to assure a firm, comfortable hold of the binocular body. The entire body is protected with a rubber housing and comes with slight hollows for the users thumbs, further enhancing hold of the body while assuring stable, fatigue-free observation. Feels alot like the Swarovski EL 8x32.
In addition to fully multicoated lenses and phase coated prisms, one additional 'super reflection' coating is applied to the auxiliary prisms of the Pentax 9 x42 DCF BR to further enhance light transmittance. By coupling high-refraction BaK4 glass prisms with three different lens coatings, the Pentax 9 x 42 DCF BR have been designed to offer top-level optical performance and deliver bright, clear subject images.
The body is made of durable, lightweight, reinforced glass-fiber engineering plastic and is protected with a full-body rubber housing, giving the new models excellent resistance against external shock.
Thanks to a highly reliable airtight, waterproof construction (equivalent to JIS Class 6), these binoculars provide worry-free observation under all weather conditions. The binoculars can be easily rinsed clean with fresh water and can be submerged in water to a depth of one meter. The binocular body is filled with nitrogen gas to prevent moisture condensation within the lens barrels due to sudden temperature fluctuation. This nitrogen-filled construction also effectively prevents fogging of the lenses, fungal growth and rusting of interior parts.
Pentax has done something interesting here. They have brought the BR model to market in only a 9 power configuration rather than the standard 8x or 10x power choice. These binos provide good field of view (320 feet at 1,000 yards) and a stable image to satisfy those who might prefer an 8 power. Quite good if you wouldn't mind a little extra magnification without losing too much field of view or image stability.
